.: New Year Celebrations.........

On the 13th and 14th April Sri Lanka celebrated the Sinhala & Tamil new year day. The new year celebrations of this year took a very calm appearance due to the tsunami disaster. SFO - Galle is going to organize a new yaer festival day on the 18th, 19th & 20th April, 2005. All the Sectariot members and all the other representatives of each district are invited for this event. It is good to encourage such events at this time, since they have an impact of bringing the minds of the tsunami victims to normal.

ABOUT NAFSO

NAFSO (National Fisheries Solidarity Movement), organizes fishermen to lobby the government to defend their rights and to bring about good environmental practice in coastal areas. ...NAFSO has helped a fishing community to take legal action against a proposal to build a five-star hotel on a mangrove where fish spawn."We are not against hotels, because they bring tourism and income. But 3,000 families and 15,000 fishermen use this lagoon and all of them could be affected by the developments. Only 200 would be employed by the hotel.
