There were 5 fishermen who were Tamils by ethnicity were shot dead at Okanda, Panama area and their fishing huts were also burnt. The persons were within 30-35 years old and engaged in fishing as their livelihood.

The people in the area suspect, LTTE carders are responsible for this.

One of NAFSO member at Panama said to "Sindusara" (The monthly publish news paper by The National Fisheries Solidarity Movement) that those people were closely work with STF for the security of the people and the area, which may be the reason to kill them by LTTE.

Three of the fishers are members of NAFSO and were active involved the campaigns organized by DIFSo, the partner organization of NAFSO network.
