Fisher communities staged a protest against destructive fishing

Fisher communities from coastal districts staged a protest in Colombo after participating a program on food sovereignty on 18th October.

Fisher community from Kalpitiya took the front and tried to reach presidential secretariat to have a discussion and submit a letter to the president or Secretary of the president.  but the Police blocked the road entering to Galle road from pettah.

Fishers asked authorities to stop legalizing illegal fishing methods using other means and instead take steps to activate the exists laws and create necessary laws if required to strength fisheries regulation and management.

Around 800 fishers participated in the protest from around the country.
