A draft national fisheries and aquaculture policy was open for public comment on the official website of the Ministry of Fisheries since January 2018.
National Fisheries Solidarity Movement initiated to take public comment for the draft policy as many of fisheries communities has no access to the Internet or they are incapable of doing so. on 19th February NAFSO submitted a report prepared after consulting fisher and farmer communities in 12 coastal districts and 3 inland districts on policy draft.
After a discussion held with The secretary of Ministry of Fisheries, Mr Jagath P Wijeweera and coordinating officer for National fisheries and aquaculture policy project, Mr A. Hettiarachchi NAFSO representatives submitted the report.
