Irainathive Land Case
Irainathivu people who got their land back are now reopened their church at the island with the presence of Bishop of Mannar, several priests and nuns together with devotees from Mannar, Kilinochchi and Jaffna districts on 27th October. The felicitation ceremony was also organized at the church while appreciating the assistance of NAFSO and MESDO during the continuous people’s struggle for their land rights. Representing NAFSO Francis Raajan of Praja Abilasha network, Benedict Croos of DIFSO coordinator, Mannar and S. Vaseekaran of Mulaitivu district coordinator attended and received the souvenir from the community.
Athpuda Rani, who attended Geneva HR council sessions said, “We, the Irainathivu community would not forget Mr. Yves Usc Bowie of STP as he was behind us to bring our voice in national and international platforms. Those support helped us to get back our land from Navy.”
Francis Raajan, the PA coordinator said at the occasion, “We need brave people, women in particular who have the extra ordinary courage to continue the struggle and getting back Irainathivu island is one clear example of success of determined people to win. We are happily join hand with those people on their victory celebrations at Iranaitivu.”
