Protect Environment-Protect Human Life


Human cannot survive without the help from the environment, we live and in hail oxygen from the support of the environment. Organic farming is an essential requirement today to face the current socio political issues that we experience. We have to find solutions for the issues of human civilization through environment. 
A three-day workshop on Organic farming was held in Neelabamma ‘NAFSO, Blue Green garden’ training center from 10-12 of July 2019. About 30 participants from Mannar, Ampara, Polonnaruwa, Pollpithigama, Trincomalee, Mullathive, Batticaloa, Galle, Matara, Karuwalagaswewa, Killinochchi, Jaffna, Monaragala, districts represented the workshop. Mr. Asoka Karunarattne, a research officer of the Sri Lanka Arurvada Research Institute of Navinna, facilitated the workshop. Timely related topics related to the Organic farming was discussed in this workshop.
Some of the topics that were covered on the first day were, What is Organic farming, Relationship between Development and Globalization and its impact to the farming systems, Importance of food protection and the environmental protection.
On the second day, themes such as Importance of locally available and recycling of raw materials for food production, The relationship between the local agriculture and the protection of local food patterns, Health issues related to using chemical products on food production were discussed.
A group discussion was held with participants on the importance of traditional food patterns and the medicinal value of such food. A practical session was then held to encourage the ‘Home garden and How to produce organic fertilizer.
On the third day Mr. A. Jesudasan facilitated a session regarding the ongoing farming and home garden program at district level and how we should incorporate the themes that were discussed at the workshop to improve the district programs.
