The third round of UN negotiations towards a Global Ocean Treaty started two days ago.

  If you follow us on social media1, you may have seen actor and Greenpeace oceans ambassador Javier Bardem standing in iconic Times Square, surrounded by huge Greenpeace billboards replacing corporate advertisement, asking for ocean protection.

Javier then addressed the UN delegates during the first day of negotiations, asking them to negotiate a strong Global Ocean Treaty that would help protect 30% of our global oceans by 2030. Overfishing, deep sea mining, climate change… the oceans are under a lot of pressure and we need a vast network of marine sanctuaries to put millions of square kilometers off-limits to destructive industries, and help get marine life on the road to recovery.
