Southern People are in Solidarity with Silawaththrai People's Land Struggle

The Silawathurai community in Mannar engage in continuous protest demanding to return the military occupied their land to owners. They mark their 50th day of the protest on 10th April. We hope to organize a solidarity action on 10th at 4.00pm at in front of Negombo bus stand. Please share this information widely and participate in the Solidarity campaign for Silawaththurai.


Mr. Anthony Jesudasan participates in the Lenten Campaign in France

Mr. Anthony Jesudasan, program coordinator of people to people dialogue on sustainable development in National Fisheries Solidarity Movement has been participating in the Lenten Campaign which has been organized by CCFD-Terre Solidaire in France.  The program is being held from 18 March to 8 April 2019 in France.  CCFD supports to NAFSO to  implement a project related to the Internally Displaced People in Sri Lanka. According to the relationship between CCFD and NAFSO, Mr. Anthony Jesudasn was invited to participate in the Lenten Campaign. He meets the different communities and shares NAFSO’s involvement for community development in the country.

Tree Planting Campaign and Climate Justice direct actions and awareness campaign

Uwa Wellassa Women Organization is one of active member of Y-MESOC youth campaign on Disaster Risk Reduction, Garbage Management, Tree Planting Campaign and Climate Justice direct actions and awareness campaign in Monaragala district. 
The Youth Group of UWWO at Colony Number 03 had conducted garbage management dust bin creation and Shramadana campaign to cleaning the school ground at Saddatissa Primary College at Palwatta with the support of College administration and Children.

Pemalatha, the field Coordinator of NAFSO together with UWWO activists facilitated the process and planned for follow up actions with youth and College staff.




Signature Campaings

Signature campaigns are ongoing on Land issues and to establishment of Sustainable Fisheries Policy in 15 districts right now through NAFSO policy advocacy program. Some of the organizations have achieved their target as they organized street campaigns, Home to Home campaigns, collect signatures at small group meetings, study circles they organize or with the support of other civil society organizations.
Jaffna district team lead by Inbam, Ampara district team lead by Isadeen, Mannar district team lead by Benedict Croos are among others who shared their activities of signature campaigns at ground level.
There will be Island wide poster campaign launched on 08th May focusing land issues, sustainable fisheries policy and Colombo Port City issue. All are welcome to take part the poster campaign and contact Nalaka Rosiro for details.
The campaign continue with three regional level workshops organized in three places as follows;
9th May at Trincomalee
16th May at Jaffna
23rd May at Negombo
The final report of the land rights violations will be presented to the minister of land affairs with a Round Table Dialogue of CSO, Researchers, govt officials, Academia and affected community leaders.

Launched Peace & Reconciliation program


 Launched Peace & Reconciliation program of NAFSO with the support of GIZ, a German based institution among Youth & Women. Expect to use social media to address the issues due to hate speech, religious extremism, racism and ethnic identities. NAFSO would attend to organize Youth to have a dialogue between north and south together and organize dialogues to understand each other’s life struggles, restrictions people face, issues the war survivors face such as land issues due to displacement, livelihoods, gender justice, security, violence against women etc. the program aimed at Youth, women and fishers
