Panel discussion on the struggle for the right to food and nutrition people’s monitoring beyond the SDGs in Geneva

Panel discussion on the struggle for the right to food and nutrition people’s monitoring beyond the SDGs was held in the Palais De Nations at the room xxv on 1st of March 2018 in Geneva. NAFSO, CSR and Law and Society Trust made three presentations in relation to the engagement of international monitoring mechanism through CEDAW, ESCR and UPR process. Representatives from NAFSO, CSR and LST were invited to share the experiences in order to submit the particular reports. We shared our experience in organizing civil society organizations to involve in the monitoring process in the national and international level. We were able to highlight most important elements to ensure meaningful participation in the process.



The discussion focused on the importance of the CFS in furthering of the Right to Food, and new space for accountability /policy coherence – emphasizing that.  We recognized the value of the Geneva institutions (treaty bodies, UPR, Rapporteurs) and that is the benefit of CFS when engage with Geneva process. It is important to build a collaboration and coordination with the international technical agencies that can support for  the implementation of the Right to Food in national level.

Accept and respect to right to land recognize and estalish the and right as a fundamental right in the constitution estabish a people orientated land policy


700 acres of lands in Jaffna back to original owners

According to District secretary of Jaffna, 700 Acres of land in Jaffna - Walikamam area to be released by Sri Lanka Army. This has been revealed by army commander while a visiting in Jaffna peninsula.  Thelippalei and Keeramalei lands which were in high-security zone previously have been released so far.

CSO Collective on CEDAW Sri Lanka celebrated women’s day under the theme of Unite ! Stand ! Move with Strength ! at Negombo. 

There are many posts in the FB already from many angles of the inputs.
Women factory workers, Women in agriculture, fisheries, plantation sector, mothers in the displaced camps, landless women, mothers of the disappeared persons families and some discriminated women of the local government elections attended the sessions and shared their views and plans for go forward.
Swarna Sumanasekara, the chair woman of national women committee of the ministry of women affairs said,”Civil Society Organizations need to do more to bring justice to women through CEDAW recommendations”.
The women leaders addressed the gathering shared how each sector is ready for perform their part on CEDAW recommendations.
One of the most attractive item on the agenda was the dance of the girl of southern fisheries organization.





















AHI STUDY TOUR 2018 SRI LANKA


AHI STUDY TOUR 2018

A Japanese team with 17 pax spent 10 days with us and visited Polpithigama with Praja Sahayogitha, Kandy with HDO and Negombo with Sri Vimukthi which all sites were facilitated by NAFSO/ AHI. The main aim of them to learn our culture, life struggles, daily routine and our people.
Some times we feel proud as our people are so hospitable, generous and kind to visitors than any other nation. All the pax appreciated their hosts families and the learning through exchanges though there was a communication gaps some occasions. Importantly, Takahiro Nakashima, of the Japanese team leader of AHI said, “Almost all our expectations were met. Our team is happy and we want to continue similar type of visits 3 more years”.
One of a host family member of Negombo, shared with me at the farewell party held Wednesday night, said “this was an excellent experience for me and my family. Nabe San became my family member and also long lasting friend of mine. I thank you all for giving this opportunity.
The major part of the credit should goes to the program organizers of Takahiro Nakashima of AHI, Sanjeewa Sampath of PSS, S. Sivapragasam of HDO, Suba Shini of SVFWO & Community Tourism program coordinator Nuwan Pradeep of NAFSO.
