Irudeniyaaya Villagers fighting for land rights.

Irudeniyaaya is a framer village in Polpithigama divisional secretariat in Kurunegala District. In 1970 Prime minister Mrs Sirimavo Bandaranayeka have given the land for the farmers to increase the food production in the country under the project of " battle of cultivation" since then the farmers have been settled in those lands given by the government leader for the time. In 1989 Under the R.Premadasa government a gazette have been passed taking over these lands for widen the Nature sanctuary of "Kahalla-Palle Kele" But the under the President D.B.Vijethunga in 1994 the 1999 acer land have granted to the villagers who lived there since 1970 by a charter. In the present, wildlife department is pressurizing the villages by stopping of property development activities. The W.D have filed 4 cases against villagers who have stated to construct new houses in their land which still do not have deeds but lived for 4 decades.
