"Dialogue for People’s Constitution", 19 February 22 on Kandy

A seminar on the above topic was held at the Sampath Reception Hall, Kandy for religious leaders, civil activists, trade unions, members of local government, and professionals in the Kandy district.
183 activists represented from various sectors. It was attended by 142 participants physically and 41 participants virtually via Zoom App. The program was held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on 19th February 2022.
The seminar consisted of two-panel discussions. The first group consisted of Victor Ivan, Basil Fernando, Brito Fernando, and Herman Kumara. The discussion was moderated by Saman Seneviratne.
Udeni Dissanayake, Tamara Dayani and Lal Bangamuwage are included in the second panel discussion. They are represented by leading trade unions. The discussion was moderated by Gamini Jayaweera and Renuka Maliyagoda.
The Government sources say a new constitution is to be passed. The President has also said this twice. The purpose of this conference is to convince the people that a people's constitution should be drafted with the broad participation of the people. It is to make people understand that it is not the job of a few lawyers in the ruling party.
Another objective of this seminar is to initiate a broad public dialogue on the above issues. It also focused on exploring the possibility of access to court proceedings through various sources.
