Subject: Concerns for safety of Mr Herman Kumara (NAFSO)
Your Excellency,
Through the University of Amsterdam we were informed on their concerns about the safety of Mr Herman Kumara of the National Fisheries Solidarity Movement (NAFSO). Mr Herman Kumara is one of the consortium partners in the project entitled ‘Re-incorporating the excluded: Providing space for small-scale fishers in the sustainable development of fisheries of South Africa and South Asia’. This research project is funded by the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of The Netherlands within the framework of the CoCooN programme, carried out under secretariat of the NWO division WOTRO Science for Global Development.
Apparently, Mr Kumara has been threatened, following the recent increase in fuel prices and the protests that followed.
