Fishers from Manna who have travelled to Kilinochchi for fishing as they done for so many years have been assaulted by several Navy personals in Kilinochchi on 13th of February. One fisherman taking treatments in Jaffna hospital and one in Mannar hospital as their having wounds in the body.
According to news receiving, they were conducting fishing operations using illegal fisheries methods but there is related law and officials must act accordingly says the panelists in the media conference.
Mr. Jesudan, from National Fisheries Solidarity told that there are areas fishers intensively using illegal fishing methods and government must act fast and take necessary actions to stop those but it should not involved any assault to fishers.
This meeting have been organised by Mannar District Fisheries Solidarity.persons from civil society , fisher community and two rev.fathers participated in the meeting for giving facts about the incident.
after the meeting with media, people met the Northern Province Chief Minister, Mr. Wignashveran to discuss about fisheries related issues in the area.
